Armless Gearfish Wearing Fedoras in this weeks Gearfish Cast

Brooks and I had the pleasure of participating in this weeks Gearfish Podcast. Little did we know we would ruin the podcast by not having played Gears of War 3 — or Gears of War 1 & 2 for that matter. That said we did however manage to derail that fucking thing right from the get go and plunge it into the depths of chaos. I’d like to think that’s reason enough to roll out the mission complete banner and shuffle across the deck of an aircraft carrier. All said, I think the cast was a huge success and was a ton of fun to record. Big thanks to Nate for having us on, hope we can do it again soon.

Hop on over to the Gearfish site to have a listen or a download.

MagicalTimeBean gets my goat, new game in action

They aren’t quite corgis, but goats are cute too. Especially when they climb on top of other peoples cars and munch on the end of their antennas. I don’t fully comprehend whats going on in the video below — which was totally stolen from FreakinIndie.com — but it involves a goat and scorpions symbiosis attempting to escape. MagicalTimeBean first broke onto the scene last year with Soul Caster, a bizarre mashup of action rpg and tower defense. Needless to say we’ve been expecting something equally fresh from Ian Stocker ever since, we’ll just have to wait and see if this is it. Escape Goat is currently in playtest and will likely be available soon.

Update: Brooks claims that’s a mouse, but I’m reluctant to agree. mouse tails don’t work that way! Keep reading

Wizorb breaking free on XBLIG Sept. 29

Wizorb Coming to XBLIG September 29th

Tribute, the development team constituted of former EA devs seeking to pay homage to games of yesteryear, has announced the release of their first game. Wizorb appears to be an RPG Breakout mashup of a game that looks as though it’s got a great deal of promise — not to mention a classic and beautiful look thanks to Paul Robertson. The game will be releasing on the 29th of September on the Xbox Live Indie Games platform — great news for the platform and for us gamers. The announcement was made via their shiny and new official game site that just launched as well.

Radiangames partners with publisher to get into more pockets

Radiangames partners up with Chillingo games

Luke Schneider, the one man crew behind Radiangames, announced today that he’s partnering with EA’s mobile group Chillingo. The strategy is pretty simple, Luke seeks to take advantage of the marketing powers of Chillingo — meanwhile Chillingo will no doubt seek to take their little cut. I must admit I’m skeptical that a publisher can do much in the way of increasing mind share with the average smartphone user. That said, I’m really looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. 2f XBLIG Update Cast – 008: The ‘strafe right into my heart’ edition

Well we have a chopped up mish mash of a mess cast today. I’m not entirely sure what all the technical difficulties were about, but in the future we’ll have to simultaniously record locally and upload somewhere. So much extra work because things don’t work quite right enough, oh well. So we’ll be typing up an old fashioned summery version here for you. Anyways, this week we had a couple decent entries into the XBLIG and at least one person trying to tell the same joke twice. As for the title of the post? Well that has to do with the maker of my favorite game from the line up, Dead Pixels. The drill is the same as usual, these aren’t reviews they are simple impressions. Bold titles are the ones we liked and italics are ones we disagreed on. Keep reading

New Chevy Ray game official, celebrate by making your desktop more Hollows Deepy

Although he’s been kicking it around for a little while now, with videos, snippets of concept, and the name, indie icon Chevy Ray Johnston has made his latest game Hollows Deep officially official.

It is a side-scrolling adventure, a tale of folklore, forests, feuding and fear.

It tells of a superstitious people, of their village in the depths of a colossal forest.

And it tells of the fateful day of their fall, and the woman who must protect them.

Even if you don’t know the name, you may be familiar with some of his previous projects, Beacon, Skullpogo, Fat Wizard (on CartoonNetwork.com) or possibly even his game engine, FlashPunk.

Partnering with Sara Gross (aka Two Bit Art) for visuals, they have celebrated the announcement today by showing off a logo, some concept art, and wallpaper.

Have a look for yourself at Chevy Ray’s site.

Also check out his development in progress videos.

Minecraft 1.9 is on the loose and MineCon attendees once again earn my ire

Minecraft 1.9 pre-release now available

So 1.9 is making the rounds in much the same way its Adventure Pack predacessor did. Here is a list of the anticipated features included in this update. Remember this update is considered part of the 1.8 update and isn’t quite as vast.

Features:

  • Villagers
  • Nether Brick
  • Nether Ruins
  • Netherrack Fence
  • 2 New Mobs [1]
  • Animal Breeding
  • Lilypads

Now on to more important business. Which is to say, why I hate MineCon attendees today. It’s bad enough they get to actually go to MineCon, I bet they already have their boxes pack — by which I mean their creeper costumes — the douche bags. Now they get to flaunt their MineCon attendeeness to everyone with in game cloaks too? Unacceptable. Anyways, if you’re like me you’ll participate in the vote to select the best cloak design by sabotaging it and voting for the lamest one. At least then we will be able to say their cloak is dumb looking.

Download links and voting options are below Ye Fold

SkyDrift’s Extreme Fighters Pack DLC adds 3 new planes

SkyDrift Extreme Fighters Pack

If you’ve already picked up your copy of SkyDrift you can up the ante with the Extreme Fighters Pack, which includes three new pimp planes. Personally I’d have opted for more tracks before more planes — but hey, what do I know. If you haven’t yet acquired the game yet, check out our full review. This is the part where I’d give you the link to the DLC but Xbox.com is a piece of shit. The DLC will run you 160 Microsoft Points or $1.59 on PSN. Wait, why is that forty cents more on Xbox?

Watch “Memories of Phantasm,” your fan made Touhou fix for the day

Yuyuko as seen in fan made Touhou anime Memories of Phantasm

I just stumbled across this completely fan made Touhou anime retelling the events of the game Perfect Cherry Blossom, and it’s pretty fantastic. A separate fan even dubbed in voices for all the characters, and here we have English subtitles (make sure to click the CC button unless you’re fluent in moonspeak).

Cute Things Dying Violently gets a not fake patch

Cute Things Dying Violently by Apathy Works UpdatedCreator of Cute Things Dying Violently, Alex Jordan of Apathy Works has been known to waggle falsified patch notes about on his webpage. This time, however, we think they’re actually legit — since they came to us through official email channels! So whats in the patch you ask? Well how about some hopped up blood splatter, an assortment of aiming tools, and some level rebalancing for the wittle babies. Full patch notes after the jump, and don’t forget our review of the game. Keep reading
