Justin Smith brings you Realistic Summer Sports

Justin Smith's Realistic Summer Sports Simulator

As video gamers we are, as a matter of principle, highly averse to so called “real” sports, what with all the sweating, and other people, and getting up out of our chairs.

So that’s where Justin Smith’s Realistic Summer Sports Simulator comes in! The iOS game from the creator of Enviro-bear 2010 and So Long Oregon, let’s go find El Dorado has you performing sports events by pulling people and  things around as if on the end of springs. Finally, the thrill of the Summer Olympics without all the off-putting training and whatnot.

Check out the trailer below to see just how ridiculous the whole thing is in practice. And find more about RSSS and Justin’s other games on his website. Keep reading

Ogmo Editor 2 out as beta

Ogmo Editor

Matt Thorson’s tile-based editor app has been an indie dev favorite since its release in April of 2010, and has been widely used in the GameJam circuit to get games up and running with content quickly. And now, version 2 is nearly ready for the masses to get jamming.

While the original was cross-platform from being a Flash app (via Air), the new version is currently windows only, being coded in C# and XNA.

Download the beta (or the original if you so desire) at ogmoeditor.com and check out its own Twitter account for more info @OgmoEditor

Skyrim gets Steam Workshop support

Oh Skyrim, you are such a sexy mistress with limitless possibilities to explore. Now you’ve got even more deliciousness to offer to those of us wise enough to have chosen to feel your warm embrace on the PC. Thats right console gamers, I’m taking this opportunity to rub in your face the fact that Skyrim on the PC is about to get a shit ton more content than you’re little walled gardens could dream of. I’m speaking of course of Skyrim entering into the Steam Workshop, which will allow popular mods to be submitted, rated, and hosted by Steam, read more after the break. Keep reading

Get dangerous and shoot bricks with Hyper Princess Pitch, out now

Hyper Princess PitchWhen Good Mecha Santa doesn’t give a girl the presents she so rightfully deserves, what is there to do? That’s right: grab your brick cannon and go raid his base.

Yes, that means the endearingly crazy Hyper Princess Pitch by Daniel Remar is now available. It’s an arena shooter with cray enemies, even crazier powerups, and even more crazier bosses, plus cut pixel art graphics and a bouncy chiptune soundtrack.

Pick it up at Daniel’s Base and start your December right.

FunInfused Games’ VolChaos hits XBLIG at last

Kris Steele of FunInfused Games is one of the most prominent figures in the XBLIG community. You’ll remember him as one of the organizers of the Indie Games Summer Uprising and creator of several indie gems on the platform. Somewhat amusingly enough, he organized the Indie Games Summer Uprising in cooperation with Dave Voyles and didn’t even have a game in it — that’s selflessness! But as it turns out the big reason was VolChaos flat out wasn’t ready for prime time and rather than rushing it out to try and squeeze it into the lineup he toiled away for the next few months. Fortunately the wait is over and the 2d side scrolling platformer that’s sure to set your little sprite soul on fire has gone gold, been pressed, and ready for your XBLIG downloading pleasure!

Science puzzler SpaceChem goes free for schools

We’ve come a long way from Oregon Trail and Math Blaster attempting to teach via gaming. With the likes of SimCity and now Minecraft being used in the classroom to facilitate learning gaming has never been so relevant. So I’m very happy to see that Zachtronics Industries is now offering licenses for their fascinating algorithmic puzzle game SpaceChem free for schools through the end of January 2012.

If you’re a school or just want to learn more, read the official news at Zachtronics Industrie SpaceChem site  or go ahead and buy it on Steam. It’s awesome.

Awesome Games Studios’ Oozi: Earth Adventure 2 now available

Platformers are a common site on the XBLIG but rarely do they show the kind of promise that Oozi: Earth Adventure Ep2 does. Then again, you all know I’m a softy when it comes to visually stunning 2D platformers featuring classically inspired gameplay. So it’s pretty easy to see why I’m keen on Awesome Games Studioes’ Oozi titles. The latest installment in the Oozi series is ready and waiting to receive your 80 Microsoft Points.
