XBLIG Update

It’s time for a XBLIG Update we had lots of titles release since the last one and a couple of them look worth taking a look at. On the downside a few of them look like they will be wasting space on the new arrivals board for a bit. I’ll let you decide which ones are which. Unless noted otherwise, we haven’t had a chance to demo these yet and all descriptions are that of the developer and our comments are in bold.

XBLIG Update

Hey check it out, I managed to do an update before we had a 15 title backlog. Bully for me! We have 4 titles here for you today, I managed to actually demo three of them and have added my comments in bold. Note that I have not played the full versions of these games and as such my impressions are based only on the demo.

Ava the Firefly

Help Ava rescue the fireflies and bring them back to the light. Share your high score over XBox LIVE with other players. Enjoy four rich scenes and see what level you can reach in this dreamy, neon-glowing chase game. Featuring music by “The Greatest Funeral Ever.”

I gave this one a trial play. It is pretty relaxing, has a very fl0w feel to it.

Mega Monster Mania

With arcade style gameplay, Mega Monster Mania lets you explore and conquer a nearly infinite number of randomly generated dungeons. Fight dangerous beasts and reap the rewards! Hunt for treasure and upgrade your equipment with friends to see who can collect the most!

The trial of this one is pretty fun, I wonder how indicative it is of its feel throughout the game. It plays a little like Diablo and old school Zelda, but it plays at blazing speed very hard to get a feel for it in the trial may require further investigation!

Globoid

Avoid the falling balls and stay alive as long as you can.

This game doesn’t demo well and that is all I played. I noticed that the controls are rigid. and the pattern of falling balls is predefined.

Zatacka 360

Zatacka 360 is a remake of the classic multiplayer DOS game in which players must steer their curves away from one another in order to survive. Players can gain the upper hand by trapping their opponents or using powerups . The classic game has been expanded with five crazy powerups and additional game modes, all in full HD and features an original soundtrack

XBLIG Update: The procrastinator edition.

It’s been a little too long since we did our last Microsoft Indie Marketplace Update. So long in fact, that we have changed its name since the last one. The reason for the name change is simple, it looked ugly in the side bar due to its length. The new much shorter and prettier XBLIG Update title is now, as you can see, in use. All the tags and categories have been updated to recognize this change.

Also due to the extended procrastination, we have a whole lot of titles to cover. Some of these titles have already had full reviews and in those circumstances we’ll let you know. All items in bold are our commentary, all other descriptions are that of the developers.

Avatar Boogie

50 avatars can simultaneously bust out fly dance moves to Avatar Boogie’s music, or to the music you already own! Choose from randomly-generated avatars, create your dance party, and watch them perform a variety of dances! Multiple dance arenas, tons of camera options, and slick dance moves await you in full 1080p resolution!

Avatar Showdown

A great conflict awaits you and your Avatar. Challenge yourself and your friends in this purest test of skill. Includes online play and the Official JForce Seal of Quality.

Space Poker

Your challenge in Space Poker is to shoot the cards down appearing above you, and your goal is to make the highest possible poker hand. Be careful though, as shooting a wrong card or crashing the plane will destroy the possibility of obtaining the best hand.

Space Radar Opera

Interesting little shooter that uses a unique control scheme. fire missiles, release a trail of bombs, or blast out an array of high powered depth charge like bombs. Not a bad little game demo.

Shoot 1UP

Read our full review, then go buy it.

Kukaku

An incredibly addictive game where you battle against the CPU or another player in destroying blocks by joining 3 or more of the same color. In an exciting combination of the best elements from popular puzzle games, strategy, speed and skill are what you need make it through the 100s of levels and win at Kukaku. Can you handle it??

MotorHEAT

We have a full review of this racer for you. Go give it a read through.

Mouse Maze

Designed to help you improve your joystick control ability, help the mouse safely find his way to the end of the maze. Pick up cheese wedges along the way to satisfy his appetite and increase your score. Keep your mouse away from the edges though; they will zap him!

Maze Haze

Guide the ball through tricky mazes and race with your friends to see who is the fastest while everyone tries to stop the others.

Pixel Killer

We have a full review of this game available!

Autumn

Help mother nature by rotating the leaves to point to the ground in this relaxing puzzle game. With soothing soundtrack and beautiful visuals, let this game help you be at peace.

Soulcaster

Summon the power of immortal warriors in this fast-paced dungeon adventure. Use skill and strategy to fight through hordes of monsters to discover secrets, collect treasure and buy powerful upgrades for your allies. Become the Soulcaster and restore peace to the land.

Last Line of Defence

The Xecrons have attacked New Earth. Can you fight them off to defend the city of Neo York and its people?

Santa Bomber

Help Santa deliver presents to all the houses while dodging planes and snowballs! Classic side scrolling action! Something makes me think someone missed there deadline.

Microsoft Indie Marketplace Update

We have three titles that have hit the Indie marketplace since the last update, two of which induce serious episodes of “wtf?”. As per usual we haven’t logged any considerable time in these games so any impressions we have are based on developer descriptions and screenshots unless otherwise noted. If you see a title here you want to know more about be sure to keep checking out the reviews and dead at demo posts, if we take a deeper look at a title thats where they will end up.

Brethren of the Coast

Brethren of the Coast, developed by Chris Rands, is a top down RTS set during the hight piracy. You take control of ships using a control scheme specifically created for the Xbox to battle enemy ships. I actually had to boot the demo of this one up to really get a feel for what it is all about. The firing of your ships canons seem automatic and fire as soon as an enemy ship is within range and in your sights. You utilize wind direction and terrain to your advantage to take the upper hand in these fights. The game looks pretty good with all 3D graphics and a mobile camera. I don’t know if I will get a chance to do a full review of this one but it definitely will not be appearing on a “Dead at Demo” post. It’s 240 Microsoft Points and is worth checking the demo out for yourself.

Otami

This brings us to our first “wtf?” game Otami by DK Alpa . I had to boot this game up as well and play it. I STILL have no idea what it is supposed to be. For starters the description on the Xbox Indie Marketplace is in Japanese. The game itself, aside from its catchy music, is in English. That being said there isn’t a whole lot of English there to be had. There is no explanation of the gameplay that I saw and the game itself appears to involve the stacking of things. That’s right I “think” the objective of the game is to stack things. Oh you want to know what you will be stacking? Well I think there is an octopus, an orange, a fish,  and some biscuit looking things. The game is set in front of a backdrop of a factory, and that sort of gives the impression that you are working on an assembly line. I don’t know people this thing is too crazy to hate and too weird to love, go try the demo and be perplexed with me. Rings up at 80 Microsoft points.

Anger Management

Okay, “wtf?” game number two here. Anger Management developed by Super Boise looks to be a pong game built with the intent to piss you off, hence the name. While playing, the controls will randomly change on you causing you to lose a lot and then will make fun of you for it. While this is all going on, a song that is reminiscent of something Tim and Eric would make and a bobble headed Abraham Lincoln is gyrating in the background. Yep, thats it. So this one is 80 Microsoft points also, and if you have a sense of humor you should try the demo just so you can say “wtf?” and hear the song.

Microsoft Indie Marketplace Update: F Yeah, Curling!

There was only one new indie game up on Indie Marketplace today but it is rather timely and doesnt look half bad. As usual we haven’t had an opportunity to try any of the games listed in the Microsoft Indie Marketplace Update posts, so any opinions or snap judgement on the games listed are based on that of the developer’s description and available screenshots. We attempt to at least try all of these games eventually so for a more informed discussion of the games be sure to check and see if we have reviewed it or deemed it “Dead at Demo“.

Curling

This one slid in late last night, HA! So anyways, the Winter Olympics are doing there thing as we speak and I guess developer “dadoo” saw fit to make a game all about the bizarrely popular Curling event. I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet but you can bet once I do I’ll let you all know about it.. On a side note did anyone see that Japanese womens team? Yeah I don’t know how they kept that ice from melting either.

Microsoft Indie Marketplace Update

Three new titles hit the Xbox Indie Marketplace recently. Unfortunately for them they are competing with the likes of P.B. Winterbottom’s pie crazed adventure for sales, in other words fat chance. As per the usual we haven’t had a chance to play any of these yet so don’t get too excited, they might show up again in a Dead at Demo post.

Classic Solitaire

Okay, so it’s Solitaire. Classic Solitaire. I am going to go with my gut here and say it’s fairly equivalent to what you minimize every time the boss comes by your computer. ’nuff said I think.

Marauder Madness!

Marauder Madness! looks like it could be worth a demo. It was created by University of  New Mexico students and features arcade style shooter gameplay. The screens don’t look half bad to boot. 240 Microsoft Points in the Xbox Indie Marketplace

Star Cross

Star Cross is turn based Sci-fi RPG which claims about 8 hours of gameplay and a story spanning multiple worlds. Has a pretty unique look  to it, the sprites appear to be 2D pixel art in a 3D environment with a fixed camera angle.

Microsoft Indie Marketplace Update

Two new Xbox Indie Marketplace titles this morning. As per the usual, we haven’t had a chance to play these titles yet, so any speculation made on the quality of these games is based on the initially available information and is, as previously mentioned,  pure speculation.

Asylum

The first game is Asylum, a strategy game in which you must aid in the escape of monsters through a series of what appear to be turrets. I get the impression Asylum is a bizarro tower defense. So far the community hasn’t responded too favorably receiving an average rating of two and a half stars. Developed by Silver Dollar Games and is priced in at 80 Microsoft Points on the indie market place.

Fish Listening to Radio

Honestly, I have no insight on this one. I don’t really even know whats going on in the screenshoots, but for some reason I kind of feel compelled to try it, so I will. But for now all that needs said is that it is developed by Popcannibal is wedged securely into the “other” category, and rings up at 80 Microsoft Points.

Microsoft Indie Marketplace Update

There are two new titles coming to Microsoft’s Xbox Indie Marketplace this morning. First we have a platformer from developer Morsel called Kaleidoscope, which I gotta say at a glance looks intriguing. The screenshots(below) give the impression of a highly stylized world and with equally unique and strange inhabitants. I am looking forward to trying this one out. Kaleidoscope rings up at a total of 240 Microsoft Points.

The second title is Nega and it appears in the category of “Puzzle & Trivia” and comes from a developer listed as “see games”. At any rate it only has one particularly unimpressive screenshot(below) so hard to really tell how this one will be, but I have a feeling we may have a space for it in the “Failed the Sniff Test” series. It clocks in at a cost of 80 Microsoft Points.
