XBLIG Update: The Vampire Boycott Is Over Edition
June 29th, 2010 | by GeoffSPractically ever since the launch of Twilight began to glitter the ultimate human predator, I have more or less been in the midst of an all out vampire boycott. In fact, the only exception in the last two years was playing Castlevania: SOTN on XBLA. Oh and I don’t want to hear any whining from you True Blood soap opera fans either. Now to the point, I’ve momentarily placed a moratorium on the blood sucking boycott for one very special game that we’ll be having a full review of in the near future(between now and when the Sun becomes a Red Giant engulfing the Earth). I’m bored with ending these the same way every time, so just know that the bold stuff is mine.
Dino ‘Splode |
|
![]() |
Dino ‘Splode is an exciting action platformer where the player controls a nearly nuclear dinosaur named Sandwich. The player travels through various unique locations, solves puzzles, survives harsh environments, and makes their way through the bloodthirsty and constantly feuding Caveman nations.
Developer: Owen Deery Price: 240 Microsoft Points Fairly enjoyable platformer with a kind of amusing sun/exploding lizard mechanic that creates a sense of urgency which persists throughout play. The speed of the game feels a little off though, I think it is worth genre fans’ time to give it a demo play. |
This Is Hard |
|
![]() |
Think you’re man enough to conquer the depths of THIS IS HARD? Trek your way through nefarious traps and deadly zombies to escape with your life. Who would fill the world with so many sharp and explosive objects? Conquer these challenges, or join the undead masses.
Developer: Stegersaurus Games Price: 80 Microsoft Points Awesome, hilarious, and fun go get your run on. |
Sharpshooter |
|
![]() |
www.yyrgames.com – An intense test of your target-shooting skills! Experience 20 unique games, dynamically-adjusting difficulty, and optional Double Mode where you play with two guns at once! Compete with a friend in two multiplayer modes, or compete online with Internet Ranking! Will your skills be enough to earn the top grades? Developer: yyr Price: 80 Microsoft Points Mildly amusing thumb work out, yyr games typically runs competitions on their new releases as well. Competitions with MS Point rewards, so go check that out at their site if you end up getting the game. |
Sword&Magic |
|
![]() |
This game is a horizontal scroll shooting game. The character of two people can be switched. It raises the level when EXP is collected, and power improves. The trial version is 4 stages. The product version is 12 stages.
Developer: HUNTERS Price: 80 Microsoft Points Interesting side-scrolling shooter in which you swap characters in and out during play. The art is a little janky even by pixel art standards and the bullet patterns seem a bit inelegant. It still seems worthy of checking out the demo. |
German 101 |
|
![]() |
Learn German with 1000 flashcards featuring the most commonly used words.
Developer: Glass Joe Price: 80 Microsoft Points This one, obviously, isn’t a game in the traditional sense of the word. I still felt like mentioning it as it seems the developer put a lot of effort into its creation. |
Vampire Rage |
|
![]() |
Cursed for an eternity with the loss of a loved one. Revenge is a dish best served cold! Vampire Rage is a fast paced shooter, themed around vampires and the undead. Can you handle the RAGE?!
Developer: tricktale Price: 80 Microsoft Points A very very impressive demo experience. I would be willing to speculate that this one could be the best vertical scrolling shooter offering since Shoot 1UP! Just the environment and its various layers of parallax are enough for a thrill. |
Ancient Trader |
|
![]() |
The smell of exotic spices and the thunder of the sea accompany your journey as you discover new islands with thriving harbours full of goods. Sail through unknown waters where no ship went before, compete with other traders, fight mythical sea-monsters and gather ancient artefacts to claim a legendary treasure. Ancient Trader is a quick, pick-up-and play arcade family-entertainment strategy game.
Developer: Fourkidsgames Price: 240 Microsoft Points This one has a really nice look to it. I don’t know how good or bad the gameplay is as it seemed hard to get a feel for it quickly which could mean there is some gameplay depth there. It may have helped if I had read any of the help or tutorials, but those are for pussies. |
Alright, it has been a considerable length of time since our last update, so as you can imagine that means there was a ton of games to go through. I did my best to hit all of them and catch us up to todays releases. I gotta say there have been a ton of really good looking releases since I left on vacation and hopefully I’ll have time to go back and play them all the way through. On the other hand there was also a lot of total shit too — “Try Not to Fart,” seriously? Stay classy Silver Dollar Games. Anyways, the descriptions of the games below have been carefully concocted by the marketing arms of their respective developers. Our scant commentary will be displayed in bold.
It’s been a few days since we had an update. Fortunately for me, it seems the developers took it easy over the weekend and didn’t go nuts releasing games. That said, we did have a fair amount to get checked out and below you’ll find the creame of the crop. As the title suggests, we do have a favorite in the group that is very deserving of your attention. The descriptions of the games below are the handy work of the games’ respective developers. Our commentary is prominently displayed in bold.
Solar Hoops |
|
![]() |
For an unknown reason, you are trying to catch a fiery meteor as it falls through a maze of stars into a waste basket being pulled by a spaceship.
Developer: Shawn Ryan Price: 80 Microsoft Points A surprisingly fun combination of a Peggle like game and a puzzle game. Seems like a solid game to mellow out with. |
Kubrik 3D |
|
![]() |
Kubrik 3D is an addictive 3D take on a block stacking classic. Rotate the falling shapes then drop them into place to clear layers. The object being to prevent the blocks from reaching the top and to survive as long as possible. Featuring colourful 3d graphics and exciting fast paced gameplay, Kubrik 3D takes this style of puzzler into the next dimension !
Developer: Mr Zilog Price: 80 Microsoft Points The game is more or less three dimensional Tetris. It plays fairly well but I think it would have benefited enormously from having a drop shadow helping indicate block placement. |
Plasma Spheres 2 |
|
![]() |
Plasma Spheres 2 is a retro arcade game where players navigate a bouncing sphere through a bizarre world. In the campaign, players must collect items and experience to survive waves of diverse enemies including Zombies, Pirates, and Ninjas. In battle mode, a myriad of weapons, items, and objectives make for a wide array of multiplayer fun. A full physics engine makes every match unpredictable.
Developer: abnormalsoft Price: 80 Microsoft Points I like it, I don’t know if it is actually any good, but I like it anyways. |
Apple Jack |
|
![]() |
Ever felt the urge to throw a washing machine at a panda? Apple Jack is a platform/puzzle game in which you DESTROY enemies by picking them up and HURLING them at each other! Journey west through five counties and 100 levels on a quest to rescue your beloved dog from the icy summit of Mount Snowdon!,
Developer: My Owl Software Price: 80 Microsoft Points Like platformers? I think you can go ahead and pick this one up. I haven’t gotten to spend any sort of meaningful time with it outside of the demo, but just from a quality of feel I think this one is likely to be well worth the 80 points. |
Avatar Paintball |
|
![]() |
Take your very own Avatar into the battlefield and compete online in Avatar Paintball. Play online with up to 16 players, in a fully 3D world, complete with weapon unlocks, battlefield power-ups and portals! Compete with the rest of the world with the global high-score list.
Developer: DigitalDNA Price: 240 Microsoft Points I hate avatars, but I really like the world the developers have created for this game. It just has a lot of character. The over the shoulder camera angle is pretty annoying though. I would recommend trial playing the game before deciding to buy. |
Rock A Block |
|
![]() |
An original racing, puzzle, platform game. Rotate your colored block to match the roller coaster of primary colors as you race up to 5 opponents along a brain twisting track of twitch gameplay or go head to head in 2 player. Alternatively take on the championship mode. Nine unlockable maps, five unlockable opponents and 9 unlockable add ons that give your racer boosted attributes
Developer: diskyoz Price: 80 Microsoft Points Game looks good, the play is fairly shallow but may have some good party game benefits. It’s ability to appeal to that audiance is limited however, by it having a maximum of two players. |
XBLIG Update: The ‘A’ is for Aardvark Edition
May 25th, 2010 | by GeoffSSo much for completionist XBLIG coverage — personally I blame Two Fedoras reader Sylath for only encouraging us to continue our cherry picking approach. But seeing as how I think he is the only reader we have, it seems fair to pander to our super majority holding constituent. The descriptions of the games below are the handy work of the respective developers. Our commentary is bold so you can easily skip it.
Project Zero |
|
![]() |
Prepare to wage war against the evil Construct forces in this epic space shooter! – alone or with a wingman. Never before has war in space been this intense, or looked so good!
Developer: Angry Aardvark Price: 80 Microsoft Points A vertical scrolling twin-stick shooter, it has powerups and other fun things. It does seem to have a little bit of slow down issue when things start blowing up. There isn’t too much danger of this one shaking up the top three contenders in the genre, but it could be a fun diversion for fans. |
Battle Tanks |
|
![]() |
GET READY TO EXPERIENCE THE NEXT LEVEL OF TANK WARFARE! POWER-UP YOUR TANK, DEFEND YOUR BASE, CONQUER YOUR ENEMIES! PLAY SOLO OR COOPERATIVELY WITH A FRIEND!
Developer: Angry Aardvark Price: 240 Microsoft Points Shouting descriptions aside, this one is definitely a game that involves battling tanks. I have to admit, I’m not a fan of tank controls, so as you may suspect, it’s quite difficult for me to like any sort of tank based game. Fortunately, not being entirely egocentric has its benefits, as I can understand someone out there somewhere may appreciate the style of play more than I do. As far as that goes the game seemed solid enough for that guy/girl, whoever he or she is. |
Scribble Defense |
|
![]() |
You are the Scribble Meister, a master of inks and defender of Scribbles. As their sole protector, you alone defend them from an unrelenting march of vicious Scrawls. Each puzzling level will challenge you to play creatively; deploy destructive towers to unleash powerful attacks, or kinetic towers to manipulate foes and the very paths they use to assault you. Hurry, the Scribbles need your help!
Developer: mechaghost Price: 80 Microsoft Points This is a pretty neat little tower defense style game. It didn’t necessarily do anything brilliant or new, it just looked cool and played well. Which is more than enough reason for you to go check it out. |
I liked cherry picking so much on the last update that I decided to continue doing so for this one. I don’t know for sure that it’s going to be an ongoing trend, but who knows. Let’s get down to business, shall we? I’ve got four games for todays update, each of which are pretty much on there for their own reasons, such as: originality, craziness, prettiness, or letting me blast things on a Windows Vista wallpaper. The descriptions of these games were authored by their respective developers, our commentary is in bold.
MoonShine |
|
![]() |
Immerse yourself in the underworld of the 1920s era prohibition period. 6 Unique game modes, a custom game mode editor, upgradable GUI, unlockable Milestones, and many other features will test your trading skills for a long time to come.
Developer: QuimbyRBG Price: 240 Microsoft Points While the game will not appeal to everybody, it does earn mega bonus points for originality. |
Meds |
|
![]() |
Meds: Recommended Dosage 100mg 3 times daily. Classic retro-style gameplay with the only enemy being your mind. 50 levels of madness, each with randomly generated withdrawal symptoms. Caution: you may never have the same experience twice. Taking pills may help, but beware of unexpected side effects. Taking meds with a friend may result in versus mode, so be sure to divide up your dosage evenly.
Developer: vgpro12 Price: 80 Microsoft Points Meds is crazy, bizarre, and strange to such an extent that I can’t even begin to tell you whether those are positive or negative qualities. I do kind of wonder how far those three characteristics can single handedly carry a game though, since onces they are stripped away it’s just a block breaker. |
Uprising |
|
![]() |
Uprising is a fast paced top-down shooter that puts the player in control of a sentient AI computer virus that ravages the world in the third millennium. Starting small, the player grows exponentially in power throughout the game. Featuring over 7 unique weapons and 15 levels, this title will keep you gripped until the finish.
Developer: debreuil Price: 80 Microsoft Points There are things to like in Uprising, for instance the setting; but the twin-stick genre is really crowded by outlandishly good games lately. So it’s probably unfair to directly compare it to things like JoyJoy, Pew Pew Pod, or Beat Hazard. Especially considering it is a good deal different with its cover usage and unique setting. |
Oribitroid |
|
![]() |
Try this frantic space shooter with eight action packed levels! Fight against tons of enemy hordes and four huge bosses. Destroy the Planetoid before it kills you using two upgradable weapons. Hit the “Target” to transform yourself into a invincible starship fighter. You can collect bonus to rise up your score to the stars or to charge Giga Bombs or again to extend time level.
Developer: Bedroom Studio Entertainment Price: 240 Microsoft Points This one gets mentioned just for being beautiful. The gameplay has a learning curve to it but seems like it has potential. It also gets bonus points for reminding me of Super Stardust HD, which is one of my favorite twin-sticks.
|
It’s official, XBLIG developers don’t want me to ever stay caught up on these updates. I think something like 25 games have come out since my last update. Needless to say you wont see that many below. I decided to instead cherry pick the ones I liked best and put them together in a single update and forget the rest exist. Sorry! The reality is, there are a ton of very good games on the list today, so get your points cards ready. The descriptions of the games below are authored by the games’ respective developers, our commentary is in bold.
Avatar Racedrome |
|
![]() |
Take your avatar for a rollercoaster drive at the Racedrome! Battle it out on 16 twisty tracks with fierce computer opponents, or online over Xbox LIVE. Includes a rewind feature so you can retry those risky maneuvers.
Developer: Juan Alberto Munoz Price: 80 Microsoft Points As you know, I have instant dislike for all things avatar related. I make an exception in this case because Avatar Racedrome is filled with some good old fashioned arcade style racing that actually doesn’t suck. |
Bloom*Block |
|
![]() |
Let’s bloom flower with Popo! This is a greening 3d puzzle. Rules are simple. The game is cleared if flowers can blossom in the faces of all blocks. It is a failure when stepping on the same face twice. When it is a little action frequency, it is a high score. Let’s play Bloom*Block!
Developer: DoeraiGames Price: 240 Microsoft Points A cute and unique puzzle game worth taking a look at. |
Rock4U |
|
![]() |
Eat all gems to get to the next level. Puzzle your way through by sliding blocks and other obstacles. Use the magic apples to approach the level literally from a different angle. Kill annoying bugs by dropping blocks on them before they catch you. – classic game with modern look & feel – simple game play – dazzling graphics – fantastic music & sound effects – high scores
Developer: TrackThisOut Price: 80 Microsoft Points This puzzle game incorporates a good deal of mechanics you’ve seen in other games into a pretty complex little package. The learning curve and brain tantalization levels seem appropriately high. |
LOL LOL Kitty Commando |
|
![]() |
In 1993 a group of Satanic Estate Agents bought up property in key areas of the world to act as a demonic staging area and gateway to the depths of hell, summoning forth unspeakable evil. LOL LOL Kitty, a weaponized house cat and government black project is deployed by the US Military in order to take out the trash.
Developer: PhoenixSS Price: 240 Microsoft Points This game is disastrously difficult but makes the list for its hilarity. The controls seem to be in desperate need of a tune up, so maybe demo it and see what you think. |
Zombie Estate |
|
![]() |
Survive 25 waves of zombies in this retro-3D shooter! 30 characters to choose from, over 20 weapons at your disposal, and thousands of zombies to kill! Play with up to 4 players in this action-packed adventure! Can you survive in Zombie Estate!?
Developer: JeremyVerchick48 Price: 80 Microsoft Points People, you have no idea how close I was to being done with zombie themed games. I mean, I thought they were beaten to death, I still do really, but Zombie Estate gets a reprieve for being “WTF AWESOME.” |
Ranger |
|
![]() |
Take control of the deadliest ranger the elven race has ever known. Use magic arrows and summon dragons to bring down waves of enemies you never thought possible. There are several modes of play for both novice and experienced players.
Developer: Silver Dollar Games 2 Price: 80 Microsoft Points Holy shit people, I thought Silver Dollar Games had forgotten how to make games. But here they are throwing out a perfectly acceptable game that actually has merit. The game does seem to have a learning curve to it, but for the most part has some really enjoyable “f yeah!” moments. |
Avatar Ninja |
|
![]() |
NINJA POWER! Prove your skills as a shadow warrior by beating other trainees in the ancient ninja training course! Races on top of water, killer traps, shurikens… Will your reflexes be up to the task?
Developer: Milkstone Studios Price: 80 Microsoft Points I included this one because it was made by Milkstone, who are responsible for both MotorHEAT and Wool, both of which kicked ass. This one’s level of ass kickery is subdued by the lack of a tutorial or explanation of gameplay. Which is to say, I don’t know what I’m doing in it well enough to know if its any good. |
JoyJoy |
|
![]() |
Experience the fluid and intensely satisfying action of radiangames JoyJoy, the happy twin-stick shooter. This is the first game in the radiangames series. radiangames JoyJoy was the #1 US-ranked game in the 2010 Dream.Build.Play competition.
Developer: radiangames Price: 80 Microsoft Points This game is just pure delight to play. I’ll have a full review of the game up eventually, that is if I can ever manage to pry myself away from playing it long enough to write one. Seriously, it’s my new favorite XBLIG twin-stick shooter. |
Paipa |
|
![]() |
It is the year 1866. The Queen has sent the interplanetary steamer HMS Victoria to claim Mars in the name of the British Empire. You are an engineer responsible for the pressure release valves on deck 43. To release water pressure you have to connect the valves on both sides of the console by rotating pipes and working with tools.
Developer: Papercut Price: 80 Microsoft Points This one is basically the mini-game from Bioshock fully fleshed out into a solid puzzle game. It incorporates concepts from the standard block drop into it as well. I can’t help but think this thing would be fantastic on the iPad. |
Gerbil Physics 2 |
|
![]() |
Our gerbil friends are back and they are more foolhardy then ever! Help them learn the impact of ropes, slingshots, bombs, disintegrators and machine guns on their slight furry forms. Venture into heaven, hell and several places in between exploring 40 new levels, mini-games, and dastardly puzzles. Gerbil Physics 2 is the most fun you can have with gerbils whilst still being borderline legal.
Developer: Beringela Price: 80 Microsoft Points Cute, funny, and smart; if you are looking for a solid physics based puzzle game this one is worth checking out. |
We’re running the gamut today, with everything from the suprisingly awesome to the questionably priced. So without further stalling for time, here we go. The following games have been lovingly described by their respective developers, our slightly less lovingly crafted commentary is eye fetchingly emphasized.
Burning Fist of Rage |
|
![]() |
Burning Fist of Rage- Experience violence, political corruption and heroism. Where the actions you make, affect the outcome, but mostly you walk right and beat people up! + Play 2 player Co-op and use the buddy move to devastate the enemy. + Multiple endings. + Knock opponents into the air and keep them bouncing. + Save the city from the forces of evil.
Developer: DarthCheesiest Price: 240 Microsoft Points A little side scrolling beat’em up that features some pretty decent 3D models for the XBLIG. The gameplay presented by the demo is somewhat rigid and limited to a few different moves. |
Team Chess |
|
![]() |
2v2 Chess – Many years ago, thousands of chess armies scattered the barren lands. Constant battle ensued. Armies learned to fight in teams to survive. After much bloodshed & troop shortage, leaders offered meaty bores & ale to entice captured units to join. It worked! Captives were trained by allies & sprung back into battle, forever changing the landscape of the chess wars…
Developer: T0PSP1N Price: 240 Microsoft Points I’m game as long as I get Deep Blue on my team. |
Rapunzel’s Fight Knight |
|
![]() |
A racing game with swords! Combining unique racing, combat, and power-up elements, Rapunzel’s Fight Knight pits players against one another as they climb to the top of a teetering tower. Join three of your friends and battle it out to see who makes it to the top first and gets the beautiful princess!
Developer: Axull Price: 240 Microsoft Points Eh, it’s amsuing enough for a party game. I wouldnt go spending $3 bucks on it for solo play though. |
Flatlands |
|
![]() |
Traverse your way through Flatland by maneuvering through each level and rotating the screen 90 degrees at a time. A new twist on the Point A to Point B puzzle. 100 total levels with varying degrees of difficulty.
Developer: poison8 Price: 240 Microsoft Points Puzzle platformer based around the mechanic of rotating the world. However, the lack of a rotation animation makes it a little difficult to conceptulize your movements. |
Fabarite |
|
![]() |
In this falling block puzzle game, pairs of lines fall from the top of the screen. Match lines of the same color to form enclosures and make them disappear. You can delete blocks by enclosing them with lines of the same color.
Developer: nobusi Price: 400 Microsoft Points 400 Points seems pretty outlandish for this game. |
Murphid |
|
![]() |
70+ levels of addictive block bashing and strategic planning. Full version of this great looking, progressively more challenging dynamic puzzle lets you play to survive the longest, beat a highscore, complete full Campaign, or unlock all powerups and awards. Hours of heavy-duty fun delivered to you by the proprietary FunQuantization technology.
Developer: DecapodStudios Price: 240 Microsoft Points Gotta admit it, I rather enjoyed demoing this one. It has a good deal of things going on, what with all the special blocks and all, but the learning curve is very manageable. |
Retent |
|
![]() |
Test your ability to retain memory in less than a second. Do you think you can beat the Retent challenge? I bet not…
Developer: GoldBlade77 Price: 80 Microsoft Points It flashes a number, you remember it and input it. Not worth a buck. Here allow me to illustrate: 85924, now close your eyes and say the number out loud. You just played Retent. |
Avatar Hangman |
|
| Can you work out the phrase in order to save your avatar? Full version features include: 1000 phrases in 5 varied categories, access to your statistics and a system to avoid repetition of phrases. Includes support for the XBOX 360 Chatpad or USB Keyboard, and a variety of color schemes.
Developer: Steve G Price: 80 Microsoft Points It is what it is. |
|
まもって騎士 |
|
![]() |
8bit styled action game from video game composer Yuzo Koshiro’s development studio, Ancient. Defeat all monsters by 4 unique heros to protect your princess.
Developer: ANCxna Price: 240 Microsoft Points Easily the best game of today’s update, seriously go check it out. You’ll have a blast. Objective is to protect the princess. The combat style is reminiscent of Gauntlet with its RPG character progression elements, but it all takes place in a single frame. There is a little hint of a tower defense in the mix too, but that comparison is limited since you don’t actually build any of the defenses. |
Playdead Games has unleashed upon us a new teaser trailer that teases you teasefully. Made up words aside, wouldn’t it be hilarious if the game never came out and just kept us waiting in perpetuity?
I’m not to sure what to say about an update who’s highlight is a pallet loading game. Too reign in your expectations further, I’ll also mention that a third of the games offered up today are memory style games and two of them have menu systems so ugly they could qualify for art grants. Yes that was a jab at highbrow art wankers. Descriptions are to Developers as Bold Commantary is to us — which is to say the bold crap is ours, so take offense to it in particular.
Pallet Loader |
|
![]() |
Use your forklift to get the crates to the correct shelf in time. Earn money to upgrade your forklift or give it a new paint job.
Developer: PHGames Price: 80 Microsoft Points Strangely amusing — I mean it is exactly what you think it is: pick up stuff and put it someplace else. Games like this are important because they will someday help us to remember how people earned a living before they were replaced by robots. |
Scatha |
|
![]() |
This campaign-based real time strategy game is completely unique from other games of its genre. You will be dealing with your units very closely as you battle through the varied types of levels of the campaign, leading Scathaedia to victory over the League of the Immortals!
Developer: Seth Ringling Price: 400 Microsoft Points As the description states, it’s a RTS. Unfortunately RTS games are typically accompanied by a decent learning curve that prevents you from really getting a feel for them from demos. and Scatha’s no different it seems. From what little I could gather, the game does seem pretty solid and seems to have a fair amount of depth to it. |
MeetURMatch (Avatar Edition) |
|
![]() |
Your favourite memory game has got its MOJO on! Now with Avatars – High Scores & Saving Settings – New Gameplay and screens – New Analog control system plus all the cool features that made it so good in the first place! Good clean fun for the whole family (even the very little ones)…
Developer: ElvishJumpSuit Price: 240 Microsoft Points This game is in possession of some of the most hideous looking menu’s I think I’ve ever seen. I mean yeah it’s memory, but I didn’t think it was supposed to make you never forget by burning into your retinas. The controls are a little weird at first, but I get the feeling they become more effective as you play with them. |
HaXor Looz |
|
![]() |
Are you the Ultimate HaXor or just a LooZ3r? Outwit and out-maneuver your opponents to claim LEDs and become the top HaXor. Up to 4 people can play. Play against easy, hard, medium and expert AI. See how long you can survive…
Developer: VDrackus Price: 80 Microsoft Points Interesting concept, could use some visual polish. |
Matching Pair |
|
![]() |
Memory card game. Features 2 unique art styles and 50 unique cards to unlock. Full gallery of unlocked cards. Play solo or with a friend. The size of the card grids increase as you progress making for a good challenge. Four play modes including speed rounds that test you memory to the max.
Developer: Meta Price: 80 Microsoft Points Deja vu? Perhaps, PERHAPS NOT. Yes that’s right two memory games in a single update. Wtih a 2 dollar price difference between them. I personally liked thisone better, but maybe that’s because the menus were less ugly. |
Brainbox 360 |
|
![]() |
BrainBox360 (Physics Edition) is an Avatar Quiz for brainiacs and anyone trying to boost their brainpower. Scene It Pad compatible! You use it as a revision tool or just a bit of fun for the whole family. You’ll be surprised just how much physics you already know and you’ll definitely learn some along the way!
Developer: ElvishJumpSuit Price: 80 Microsoft Points At least these ElvishJumpSuit guys are consistent with their menus “aesthetics.” This game is obviously built off of the same engine as the MeetURMatch game, as a lot of the structure appears the same. However, this one is a trivia game that seemed to ask some fairly amusing scientificy questions. |
Happy Mother’s Day to all the past, present, and future mitochondrial DNA contributors out there. As a token of our appreciation, we dedicate this XBLIG Update to you. There’s actually nothing all that special about this one, I mean we do like four of these a week, but this one is your’s! All game descriptions are the handy work of the games’ respective developers, our comments are in bold.
Dust Devils |
|
![]() |
We thought we were ready for Mars, the thin atmosphere, the temperature and the tough environment, but nothing could have prepared us from what was coming. Will humanity be saved or forever perish in history? Only you can decide!
Developer: OuchGames Price: 80 Microsoft Points Decent twin-stick shooter action with vehicle upgrades and what not. The targets are a little small but I’m guessing the weapon upgrades make up for that later on. |
The Perfect Pickup Line |
|
![]() |
Use the power of Old Spice to create perfect pickup lines and win over the ladies. Select one of four Old Spice scents to take with you into battle. Use the word spinner to fill in the blanks for each pickup line. The ladies will respond to your success… or failure. Correct words will boost your Old Spice power. When your power is full you may unleash the full potential of Old Spice.
Developer: Silver Dollar Games 2 Price: 240 Microsoft Points |
Retrofit: Overload |
|
![]() |
Get in the zone. Destroy all comers. Become as one with the Overload. Blistering retro shooter action featuring 2 player co-op and online scoreboards.
Developer: Wam Games Price: 80 Microsoft Points I ended up buying this one. I haven’t had much of a chance to play with it yet, but I did squeeze in a few games. It’s pretty darn good, and nice to look at to boot. If you like this sort of classic styled shooter its a pretty easy one to recommend you take a look at. |
Nomis: Legacy Islands |
|
![]() |
2D shooter/platformer. Defeat the robot general before he can resurrect a weapon hidden long ago. Play through 20 levels and engage in boss battles, local co-op, and upgrade your character and weapons.
Developer: Robot Foot Games Price: 240 Microsoft Points Kind of a neat platformer with shooter and stealth elements to it. The art doesn’t really float my boat but thats a matter of opinion really. |
Hot Potato HD |
|
![]() |
Hot Potato HD a high tech take on the popular childrens game Hot Potato! Pass the potato (in the form of the Xbox Controller) back and forth while the music plays. But be careful! If you’re holding it when the music stops, Hot Potato! It’s fun for the whole family.
Developer: Derrick Hopkins Price: 80 Microsoft Points I don’t care how hot you’re potato is, I’m not giving you a dollar for this. |
Text Zedventure |
|
![]() |
In this text-only adventure, you must escape a city ravaged by a mysterious infection. Explore a deserted residence, train station and shopping centre in three unique chapters with multiple endings. Colourblind friendly. A percentage of all sales will be donated to animal conservation charity Save The Rhino.
Developer: Crazyreyn Price: 80 Microsoft Points Well this is as the description clearly states, text-only, so the game being good or not is entirely up to the writing. |
Anger Management 2 |
|
![]() |
