Gaming and mining have gone together for a long time now, but as you’ve no doubt noticed the theme as a whole has been on the upswing as of late. Square dirt is just in vogue. But there is more than one way to approach a block of dirt, Maximinus turns Miner Dig Deep on its head and puts you to work escaping from the depths (rather than creating them) of their new game Red Tie Miner. Review: FortressCraft
It’s the best selling Xbox Indie Game of all time. It’s raked in over a million dollars for its developers. And it’s always at the center of accusations of being nothing more than a Minecraft ripoff. FortressCraft came out during our most recent hiatus and as such hadn’t yet received the full review treatment from us. So this one is long over due, but on the bright side that means we’ll be messing with the latest build v1.1. Keep reading
Review: War of the Worlds
The age of remakes and adaptations is definitely in full swing. But that’s where we are now, the remix culture. The realm of video games isn’t immune from this trend either, as recently we have seen the release of a new game adaptation of H.G. Wells’ novel War of the Worlds. Sadly rather than expand the world of my imagination, it mostly just put me at war with my controller. Keep reading
Review: Escape Goat
I’m sure you’ve often asked yourself: What would happen if Rube Goldberg had worked on NES puzzle favorite Adentures of Lolo?
You probably wouldn’t exactly get a game centered on the jailbreak antics of a determined goat and his hat wearing mouse friend. But, you just might end up with something that feels the way the latest game from the mind of MagicalTimeBean’s Ian Stocker does as you guide said goat in collecting keys, flipping switches, and calling on mouse magic in Escape Goat. Keep reading
Review: DLC Quest
Sometimes it’s okay to be short. In fact, knowing exactly how far to take something before it’s played out can be a great deal more challenging than dreaming something up in the first place. Just look to games like Final Fantasy XIII which utilized a thirty hour tutorial. Or even the movie Sucker Punch, which you wished was over the second the previews ended. Like some sort of aged sage, DLC Quest developers Going Loud Studios walks this line and walks it well. Keep reading
Review: Castle of Pixel Skulls
Review: Serious Sam: The Random Encounter
We’ve been seeing a lot of mashups lately. Then again the combination of seemingly incompatible things has long been an earmark of the indie ethos. The latest such idea we’ve had the pleasure of playing is Vlambeer’s Serious Sam: The Random Encounter which seeks to wed the strikingly dissimilar aspects of the calculated turn-based RPGs and the frenetic twitch play of a shmup.
Review: Dungeon Defenders
I am kind of a glutton for games that have character development. I’ve probably lost a decade of my life to min/maxing, leveling up, and scouring various lands for virtual wealth. It’s almost as if the folks over at Trendy Entertainment specifically had tickling my proclivities in mind when they embarked on their creation of the latest tower defense mashup, Dungeon Defenders. As it stands I’m looking at losing another decade. Keep reading
Review: Heroes of Hellas 3: Athens
Every now and then one of us ends up kind of busy with non-TwoFedoras business. I really don’t know how that happens, it’s not as though we have lives outside of the site, but it does. Well that happened recently and it left me with the distinctive pleasure of needing to play Alawar Entertainment’s Heroes of Hellas 3: Athens. Oh and by pleasure, I of course mean I hate you Brooks. Keep reading
Review: Razer Naga Epic
I hate mice. They chew holes through your stuff, they leave crap everywhere and worst of all they make you move your arm all around your desk plotting tunnels full of carpal. I converted to a trackball when I fired off my first MMO gleefully tossing the rodent into the trash where I thought they all belonged. So I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that the MMO genre and and Razer’s design team would have me reconsidering my position on pointing. Follow me on the journey and ye shall receive +5 to INT for your troubles. Keep reading
