Prove your typesetting prowess by testing your kerning mettle

KernDo you have a supernatural ability to know exactly how far characters should overhang, or how close they should be to each other before it just gets to be uncomfortable, sexually? Then Kerntype is probably the game for you.

To play, you simply slide the inner letters of a word left or right in attempt to match the spacing defined by the elder typesetters of ages past. You’re rated on how close you are to the ideal kerning. It’s simple, short, strangely fun, and a cool way to get a better understanding of one aspect of typography that makes the discipline so interesting.

Give it a go at http://type.method.ac/

Nothing brings a smile to my face like wars, Happy Wars

Happy Wars

Three classes, up to thirty player online multiplayer, and an offline campaign mode makes Toylogic’s Happy Wars a pretty ambitious looking project. Based on the trailer footage I’d say the game reminds me a lot of Realm of the Mad God  and of course World of Warcraft Battlegrounds. What I’m not seeing though is any indication of an RPG element. While that is actually a boon to a better PvP experience for a player like me who has to subsidize poor skill with uber gear. I do find the sheer scale of the scenes pretty impressive and I think you will too, so hit the jump and have a watch below the fold. The game is expected to release next year on XBLA.  Keep reading

Modified my NERF Maverick because it’s a slow news day

Nerf Maverick Revolver You guys remember my NERF Maverick, it got a review right out of the gate when I started up posting again back in August. The point is I just finished putting it back together after a quick little modification. Why? Because if it can shoot further, why shouldn’t it. I took some pictures along the way, I suppose because I’m some sort of exhibitionist, either that or I was desperate for something to post as a result of a lack of new news. Hit the jump and have a look see if you so dare, and I’ll toss in the video I referenced for my modifications to boot.  Keep reading

A brief guide to the gameplay modes of Dungeon Defenders

Dungeon Defenders Sweaty Huntress

It’s about time I started leveraging the 150 hours I’ve wasted invested in Dungeon Defenders to create some useful content for 2F beyond the already completed review of the game. So I suppose I’ll start with one of the most basic topics of all, the various gameplay modes. Not only that but I’ll be sure to toss in any pearls of wisdom I may have to offer. Keep reading

Review: Serious Sam: The Random Encounter

Vlambeer's Serious Sam: The Random Encounter Review

We’ve been seeing a lot of mashups lately. Then again the combination of seemingly incompatible things has long been an earmark of the indie ethos. The latest such idea we’ve had the pleasure of playing is Vlambeer’s Serious Sam: The Random Encounter which seeks to wed the strikingly dissimilar aspects of the calculated turn-based RPGs and the frenetic twitch play of a shmup.

We hyper-analyze Team Meat’s next game teaser

Yesterday we got a nice little surprise in the form of what I suspect was originally sketched on the back of a bar napkin utilizing a hot chicks eyeliner, four sprite caps, and seven droplets of blood. Anyways Brooks and I have been going back and forth hyperanalyzing this particular document. We suspect the T shaped element to the right-middle is in fact a pair of underpants. Keep reading

Rocketbirds Hardboiled Chicken Ratloop Asia Now Available on PSN

I don’t think I’ll ever forget the first time I saw Rocketbirds Revolution for the first time. it has possibly one of the best intro’s ever with some amazing music from New World Revolution. Perfectly orchestrated to unlockable music videos and cut-scenes, the exclusive tracks from New World Revolution. While I never made it through much of the game I played enough to know that I loved the art and style of the game. Apparently I wasn’t the only one impressed either, as Ratloop Asia the developer behind the series has now released Rocketbirds Hardboiled Chicken on the Playstation Network. Hit the jump for more infos and some hot hot trailer action. Keep reading
