Trick or Treat from NES Rock Legends, The Minibosses

Halloween Sacrilege - by karohemdAfter years of waiting, we finally have a new Minibosses album. But it isn’t quite what you would expect. Brass 2, The album they are currently producing with Tim Green of “The Fucking Champs”, is scheduled for a December release. So what is this free Halloween EP available on Theshizz.org? Easy, it’s a homage to six classic video game songs done in the style of John Carpenter’s classic theme from the “Halloween” franchise. Most all tracks are just shy of two minutes, and not a single flaming guitar shred can be heard, although some sweet licks make an appearance in the “Goonies” track. Needless to say, it sounds nothing like anything the ‘bosses have put out before, but quite fitting for the occasion and the price isn’t too bad either.

Pick it up here to spruce up your spookyday.

Binding of Isaac update unleashed, now with more crying

The Binding of Isaac Halloween UpdateWhile Geoff toils away at Dungeon Defenders, I tend more towards the likes of Edmund McMillen’s roguelike shooter crying simulator The Binding of Isaac. So today, the tears are of joy as he has updated the game with its final pieces including fixes, new items, a new unlockable character, and even an entirely new floor and final boss. I said it already in my review, but just buy the damn game. It’s on Steam and it’s $5.

Check out the update trailer and patch notes below.

Review: Serious Sam: The Random Encounter

Vlambeer's Serious Sam: The Random Encounter Review

We’ve been seeing a lot of mashups lately. Then again the combination of seemingly incompatible things has long been an earmark of the indie ethos. The latest such idea we’ve had the pleasure of playing is Vlambeer’s Serious Sam: The Random Encounter which seeks to wed the strikingly dissimilar aspects of the calculated turn-based RPGs and the frenetic twitch play of a shmup.

Escape Goat passes peer review, trailered, cover arted

Escape Goat Cover Art

Seems like we’ve been waiting forever for MagicalTimeBean’s latest puzzle platformer Escape Goat to make its way through the Peer Review process on the XBLIG. Did anyone explain to the playtesters that the scorpion mouse is actually a feature and not a bug? Anyways, the game should be popping up on the marketplace in the next couple days and as such we’ve got trailers and the above cover art now available to us. Hit the jump to have a watch and when you’re done check out our interview with creator Ian Stocker. Keep reading

Out There Somewhere doesn’t seem that far out there at all

Brazilian indie dev team Studio MiniBoss appear to have been hard at work. Their next game Out There Somewhere is looking pretty nice, with its cutesy pixel art alien captain exploration goodness and teleporter gun mechanics.

You can find out more about them and their games at studiominibosses.com, and check out the Out There Somewhere teaser below.

Dungeon Defenders gets free Halloween DLC

Dungeon Defenders Halloween DLC

In case you didn’t know, I’m pretty hooked on Trendy Entertainment’s Dungeon Defenders and by hooked I of course mean addicted. So when the Halloween DLC released on Steam I couldn’t wait to hop all up in it. You’ll gain access to eight new outfits for your little defenders. Four of the outfits come ready unlocked and all set for masquerading. Meanwhile the other four are unlocked by completing the Halloween quest on insane difficulty. It’s also worth mentioning that it’s pretty tough stuff! Also accompanying this free DLC is the 7.05 patch, so hit the jump and check out its notes. Keep reading

Cute and deadly Shank 2 papercraft

Shank 2 Papercraft
I don’t really go for the papercraft scene all that much, but I know for a fact Brooks has papercraft crap all. I mean at the very least there are sad Keanus everywhere and a ceiling cat watching his every move. So I know that at the very least there is one person that will be dusting their printer off for this Shank 2 papercraft. Yeah the edges are a little square but all in all I think the simplified shape makes it pretty cute. But don’t let its adorable exterior fool you, I’m sure you can still get one wickid paper cut from this dude. Hit the jump for more pics and a stinky linky to the high res stuffs. Keep reading

Inferno+ announced for PC/Mac

Radiangames Inferno+ PC

Hot on the heels of the release of Super Crossfire we’ve got news that Radiangames is returning to the Inferno franchise to bring it to the PC/Mac. We don’t know much more then that, other than that they plan to bring it to as many platforms as possible including OnLive and hopefully Steam. The original Inferno first released on the Xbox Indie Games platform and featured a sort of Action RPG meets Twin-Stick shooter gameplay that we really enjoyed. Luke Schneider broke the news on the Radiangames blog and promised more details soon.

Pica-wuwuwu! Ben Newman does Pokemon inspired pinup

Ben Newman's Pikaball

Artist Ben Newman is a favorite of mine. His work generally takes old school pinup art stylings and turns them around with themes and content that delve into the twisted realms of fairy tales and monster fiction, but always in a playful, non-exploitative manner.

So I’m happy that for a small change of pace, he’s decided to jump into the world of gaming for inspiration with a piece newly posted to his blog giving me an excuse to post more cute girls in gaming inspired getups.

It should probably be noted that almost all of his art is NOT SAFE FOR WORK. That doesn’t stop you. Good! Carry on to Ben Newman’s art blog for the rest of the picture and more.
