Was there a memo about an Electro-Pop resurgence that I missed? The “E-Album” movement has been going strong for quite some time now and a lot of good musicians, who would otherwise go un-noticed, are getting their name out there by simply using off the shelf software and a little music know how. Granted, for every one good act you find there will be a hundred crappy ones. But as my friend Jake puts it “Wouldn’t you dig though a pile of shit if you knew there was a diamond in there?” and he couldn’t be closer to the truth. So my hands are throughly covered in “Shit” but I have these three awesome Indie Electro-Pop albums to show for it. And all three are 100% free from the artists themselves.

First up I’ve got “George and Jonathan – Best Music”. This is a 13 track mega load of throwback awesomeness. George Brower and Jonathan Baken exploit the hell out of an old style tracker called “Piston Collage” which was created by Pixel, the guy who brought us “Cave Story”. The awesome video game like feel to this album plus its complex, almost Casiopia-like, grooves make this freebie an awesome addition to your iPods library. I recently put this on while cleaning my apartment and it gave me a weird subconscious feeling like I was in my own personal Montage. http://georgeandjonathan.com/ |

Next I have “BadNraD” with a self titled album chalked full of, you guessed it, Badness and Radness. BadNraD blends chip style hooks over heavy dance rhythms and the funkiest of bass-lines. I actually stumbled upon this a month or so ago while wasting time on YTMND and since have gotten in contact with Sir Badness himself to get permission to use his music in a video I was making. This album is well worth your time if you like classic talk box leads and fast heavy beats. With tracks like “Boss of Bass” and “This is Rock and Roll” you will have a hard time staying in place. http://www.badnrad.com/ |

Lastly i bring you “Dr. Vector – The Best of Guillermo Blanco”. A quirky 12 track album using mostly classic FM synthesis sounds and retro drum machine grooves. But don’t let that fool you, This album is a solid start to finish retro jam mix that will give you flashbacks to the dance floor at your sisters wedding back in ’88. This is good all around Electro-Pop that fits most occasions like bar mitzvahs, road trips, and vhs porno marathons. I think “Space Mission” and “Top Gigolos” are my most favorite tracks off this one. Oh, Theres a MacGyver tribute on here too, couldnt forget about that one. http://shitsuck.loukku.org/shit-9.html |
