Sad Panda: Penny Arcade Adventures Gets the Kibosh

Sad Panda is sad indeed, as word comes from the PA greats themselves that their episodic game is no longer in development. Things first began to seem iffy when the first and second installments of the originally four part series were made available in short order, but a third episode was nowhere in sight. On top of all that, the developer of the series, HotHead, was beginning to have quite the full plate.

With HotHead’s upcoming game, DeathSpank, recently gaining the support of industry juggernaut EA, the Penny Arcade duo felt the studio had an opportunity to do something amazing but needed to be able to focus on it. That’s not to say Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik thought HotHead couldn’t handle both, but rather that they wanted to help provide them with the opportunity to focus on DeathSpank and as a side benefit not risk “half-assing” any of the PA Adventures installments.

But don’t dwell on it too long Sad Panda, there is no intention of letting the story of the final two games go to waste. Jerry Holkins also confirmed that they were looking to publish the remainder of the  storyline in what he referred to as a “book” format.

XBLIG Update: The House Always Wins Edition

We’ve seen 3 new games make the scene on the XBLIG marketplace since our last update. Today’s group includes a game that teaches you that “dropping your load any old place” is unacceptable behavior. Other then that we have a generic card game and a traditional side-scrolling shmup. All the descriptions of the games below are that of the developer, therefor the only bits you can trust are in bold. (Mmm, delicious paradoxical goodness.)

Are You Fast Enough

‘Are you fast enough?’ will challenge your reactions. Build one line after another to reach the ultimate height.

Developer: FifaKane

Price: 80 Microsoft Points

Are You Fast Enough seems like a simple gauge game with oscillating blocks that must be placed on top of other blocks to build tall towers. There doesn’t seem to be much to the game, and lacks the visual “appeal” of other games with similar mechanics.

Blackjack Strategy King

Blackjack Strategy King has plenty of help and tips for beginners, and advanced features for experienced players. Features include Basic Strategy, Card Counting, Simulation, Awards, and Cheating. Player can define custom strategies or use the default. Includes options for Bank, Table Limits, Hit Soft 17, Surrender, Number of Decks, and more.

Developer: Great Scott

Price: 240 Microsoft Points

Blackjack simulator, with all sorts of teaching aids. Okay, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Aliens Go Boom

Aliens secretly love exploding. They invaded us. We’ll just give them what they want. A quick, fiery death. Tear through endless waves of savage aliens in this retro shoot-em-up.

Developer: Omnisu

Price: 80 Microsoft Points

Side scrolling shmup with some overly basic graphics. Right off the bat I would say there are better 80 point options out there.
